In 2003, the video game company CD Projekt Red purchased the rights to the series and created the very first The Witcher video game for PC. Most recently, in 2015 they published The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt, which has been credited by some critics to be one of the best video games of all time. Andrzej Sapkowski began writing short stories set in The Witcher's universe in the mid 1980's. The Witcher has a slightly complicated history as a medium.
The brand-new Netflix series is supposedly more inspired by the franchise's books rather than the massively popular video game franchise, but that hasn't stopped legions of Witcher video game fans from excitedly latching onto this series when it was announced.
Cavill is probably most well known for his role as Superman in the DC Universe, but has managed to garner even more attention in his new role as The Witcher's Geralt. Henry Cavill, who plays Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix adaptation of The Witcherseries, has revealed that he has played through The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt two and a half times.
